Mumbai street style Pav Bhaji

Pav Bhaji
A delicious street food from Bombay .If at all one visits Bombay must never miss eating out this street food. Any one would love to eat them any time. And with me it is anytime of my day. Pleasure is to eat them with some great friends. A dinner it could be or a brunch anytime, anywhere. Yesterday was a dinner with friends. Our platter was only Pav bhaji and we enjoyed to the core. I enjoyed when they had an extra servings of pav and bhaji.




Makes Bhaji for 6-8 servings

Ingredients:
Red onions-3 finely chopped
Tomatoes-2 finely chopped
Bell peppers-1 (any colored) finely chopped
Potatoes-5
Ginger garlic paste-1 teaspoon
Cumin seeds-½ tsp.
Chilly powder-½ teaspoon
Turmeric powder-¼ tsp.
Pav bhaji masala- 2 tbsp
Tomato puree- 250 gms
Oil-1 tbsp.
Coriander leaves- 1 small bunch of  approx. 20 sprigs
Lemon- ½
Salt to taste
Butter-100gms
Water- around 3 cups.

For platter decoration get ready with these
Red Onions- 2 chopped
Lemon- 1 cut into wedges
Coriander leaves -10-15 sprigs approx. chopped

Recipe:

  1. Pressure cook the potatoes, peel them and mash them and get ready before starting. In a pan add oil and a small cube of butter. 
  2. When butter melts pop in the cumin seeds and as they splatter onions.
  3. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute till the rawness is gone.
  4. Then pop in paprika/capsicum into it. Cook for a while.
  5. Now add the chopped tomatoes. Add salt. Saute and continue cooking.
  6. Add turmeric powder and chilly powder to it and cook further.
  7. Add tomato puree and mix well.
  8. Cook for a while.
  9. Now add boiled, peeled and mashed potatoes.
  10. Add little water and continue cooking. Mash it with a potato masher such that no vegetables seem to be visible and appears to be like a thick semi solid sauce consistency
  11. Now add pav bhaji masala and mix well.
  12. Continue cooking, add water in case water content is reduced. Add salt adjusting to taste. Add a small cube of butter again. Sprinkle lemon juice. Add coriander leaves and simmer for a while. In a platter add the bhaji, some chopped onions and lemon wedges. Add butter to a hot pan and roast the pav on it for a while till it gets a mild golden brown color on either sides. Enjoy hot as many as you like.
